Demetria Devonne Lovato was born on August 20th, 1992 to Dianna and Patrick Lovato in Dallas, Texas. Her parents are now divorced, and her stepfather is Eddie DeLaGarza. Demi has two sisters, Dallas Lovato, who is five years older than her, and her half-sister, Madison DeLaGarza, who is 10 years younger. At the age of six, Demi landed her first role on the kid's television show, "Barney and Friends" as Angela. At the auditions for the show, Demi met her now best friend, Selena Gomez, who played Gianna on the show.
After "Barney," Demi went on to appear in the hip hop instructional video "Off Da Hook: Hip-Hop F-Troop Style" in 2004. Her song 'Moves Me' was featured on the video as a new hip hop single. After that, Demi guest starred on "Prison Break" in 2006 playing Danielle Curtin. In the episode, entitled First Down, Demi's character meets a man who is receiving help from her father. The man comes on to her, and she runs to her father for help. Also in 2006, Demi appeared on the television show "Split Ends." Later, in 2007, Demi made an appearance on the television show "Just Jordan," playing Nicole in the episode called Slippery When Wet.
Later that year, Demi landed the role of Charlotte in the Disney Channel short series entitled "As the Bell Rings." The series followed Demi's character, Charlotte, and her friends on their adventures in between classes. On the show, Demi showcased her singing talents by doing a duet with fellow cast member, Tony Oller, entitled 'Shadow.' On February 19th, 2008, Demi attended her first big event, Chevy Rocks the Future, with Selena Gomez, and her Camp Rock co-stars. Later in 2008, Demi got her breakout role starring as Mitchie Torres in the Disney Chanel original movie, "Camp Rock," which aired on June 20th, 2008. The movie follows Mitchie in her first summer at a top music camp, called Camp Rock. There, she gets involved with the diva of Camp Rock, Tess Tyler (Meaghan Jette Martin). Along with "Tess Drama," Mitchie meets Shane Gray, a popular rockstar from the group Connect 3 (played by the Jonas Brothers). Throughout the movie, the audience sees Mitchie find herself and her true friends along the way.
On September 23rd, 2008, Demi's first album "Don't Forget" debuted at number two on the charts. Demi co-wrote 8 of the 11 songs with the Jonas Brothers. The song 'Two Worlds Collide' was written about her two best friends, Selena Gomez and Marissa Callahan. Demi went on tour with the Jonas Brothers over the summer of 2008, and played to many sold out crowds. Demi has said that she gets very emotional when she performs 'Don't Forget,' stating all she sees is the young man's face. She has also been seen getting emotional during her performances of 'Believe in Me.'
Demi recently filmed another Disney Channel original movie entitled "Princess Protection Program" with Selena Gomez. Demi plays Princess Rosie, who is sent into the Princess Protection Program. The movie is set to release in February of 2009 on Disney Channel. Also set to premiere in 2009, Demi landed a starring role on her own Disney Channel original series called "Sonny with a Chance" playing Sonny Munroe.
